Food and School supplies were donated to Guadalupe Community Services Center which provides food pantry services, adult and youth health and nutrition classes, adult ESL classes, sports, art and cultural activities for youth, after-school tutoring, and CalFresh registration assistance. The center has a computer lab and offers children’s summer camps and holiday events.

School Supply, Food and Hygiene Kit Distribution

Every year as back to school season approaches, on Aug. 13, 2023, ‘A More Balanced World’s youth program in collaboration with Sakar Foundation organized a food, hygiene, and school supply drive for the underprivileged community of Simi Valley, California. During this event, members of Sakar Foundation and AMBW Youth Prog. collected and distributed non-perishable food, hygiene essentials, and school supplies to over 35 disadvantaged families.

Distribution of Backpacks to the students of Portland School, Uganda

Books are known to hold immense knowledge to transform mind and thoughts. However, certain number of students in the Portland School in Uganda, had no backpacks to carry these books along with other school supplies. An initiative by Sākār Foundation, teamed with Beatrice Achieng Nas from the Pearl Community Empowerment Foundation (PCEF) distributed 40 sturdy and resourceful backpacks to the students in need. Shoes were also distributed in a similar drive to the students who mostly attended school barefoot.

Supporting Syrian and Turkish Communities

A donation collection drive is being organized to provide adult and baby clothes, winter wear and personal hygiene kits to communities in need in Turkey and Syria.

The recent earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey left a trail of devastation in its wake. The affected communities were left in utter despair, with the loss of loved ones and the destruction of their homes and livelihoods. The unbearable winters added to the condition. But amidst the chaos and destruction, there was hope. Hope through humanity and fulfilment, to which Sākār Foundation wanted to be a contributing ray. Relief efforts poured in from all corners to provide necessities and warm clothes for the young and adults clothes, personal hygiene kits and other aid to communities in Syria and Turkey, as people came together to lend a helping hand. These items donated were delivered to the SimiValley Islamic Center and Reseda Islamic Center, which shipped them to Turkey and Syria. The relief effort brought people from different backgrounds and cultures together, united in their determination to make a difference and help those in need. Despite the challenges, the spirit of resilience and solidarity shone through.

SimiValley Unified District School supply drive

The pandemic caused chaos and mayhem across the world. AMBW youth program, SimiValley SunRise Rotary International and Sakar Foundation joined hands together in raising a fundraiser to support 9 schools across SimiValley Unified District during these challenging times of the pandemic. This was made possible through the generous support and contributions by the residents in the District who were able to make their thoughtful contributions and donations through the collection points placed at local businesses and restaurants. The entire amount raised made it possible to aid and help over 250 students in the community. There was also support received through Local community Helpers from Cost Plus World Market, along with contributions of resourceful gift baskets and gift cards worth $150.

Food and Hygiene kits to local community college students

The pandemic had severely affected different communities, globally. Basic necessities like food and water were not available to some sections of society. Sakar Foundation and A More Balanced World Youth Program took a collaborative approach in extending support to college students of the local community colleges, who had faced severe effects from the pandemic. Several college students also lost their jobs and thus, their source of income as lockdowns were imposed across the world. Through the support program, more than 40 college students of Ventura and Los Angeles counties were supported. The joy of uplifting the spirits and ambition of the youth has facilitated us to make this collaboration of donation a yearly program.

Computers for St. Lawrence high school, Moodubelle, Karnataka, India

To make sure every child has a fair access and knowledge to science and computers, Sakar Foundation, took a step towards equipping St. Lawrence high school in Moodubelle with new-age computers. We believe that the young minds of today carry thoughts of innovation to tackle the challenges of the future, and these students have just got a step closer to discovering their stream of opportunities!

School Bus Support for a school in India

Education gives you the power to explore through horizons of opportunities. But the commute and transportation becomes quite an ordeal to make.

To ensure that every child gets equal access to schools, Sakar Foundation has taken a step towards making connectivity convenient for students of St. Lawrence high school MooduBelle in Udupi District, Karnataka, in India. A provision of comfortable and efficient school busses for the easy commute of students has been made. Sakar has provided bus fees for 15 under priviledged high school students for a year to make their commute easier.

With this step, Sakar hopes to bring a smile on each aspiring child as he reaches his school with a hope to work towards the best!

Educating the students today can be the cornerstone towards bringing avenues for innovation and a brighter future. Sakar Foundation has been a believer of this idea and works towards building resources to educate the budding keen minds of students across different strata of society- as education does not see the barrier set by societal standards. Sakar Foundation has been instrumental with their support in funding and arranging for all the important assessments until the National Examination - Leaving Examinations. The Foundation looks towards building holistic development through psychoeducation, building resilience and confidence, and ensuring nutritious food intake and overall mental and physical health for optimal performance in all streams of life. The most rewarding output for the measures taken by Sakar Foundation was through the news of Portland School as the Best school in Kisoko Sub-county in the recent District Mock examinations. Our hope and efforts are contributed towards preparing the students towards continued star academic performance along with being responsible and noble beings.

Support to the PLE Examinations

In this competitive world, to prove one’s calibre the education system is designed in ways to screen, test and pick the most proficient candidates. To pursue a career in Healthcare, one of the most resourceful and responsible career options across the world, The Physician Licensure Examination (PLE) is a mandatory qualifying process. Fueling the interest and hope in the field of health sciences in the young minds of the students in Portland School, Uganda has been a focal aspect at Sākār Foundation.

In the year 2022, all the 40 students who appeared for the national examination cleared it with the path steered by the sākār youth, who provided continuous assessment and undying support to the aspirants till the end of the process. The teachers and the rest of the faculty and team at Portland School have been the much-needed source of guidance, training and support to the students for having an extra edge at these evaluations.

Food Drive for the students at Los Angeles Pierce College

Food and nutrition can act as much-needed fuel to aspirations and evolutionary ideas. Unfortunately, it was discovered that the youth, the future of the world, was deprived of nutritious food and basic hygiene supplies during and post the pandemic. Sakar Foundation in a collaboration with like-minded organizations provided aid and support to the students of the Los Angeles Pierce College with Student Lunch Box. Copious amounts of donations were made to the students in the form of food and hygiene kits, hoping to add encouragement and betterment in their journey towards growth and prosperity.

CPR Awareness Program in Uganda

The ability to administer a successful CPR can be a valuable life-saving skill that can add up to every human’s contribution towards a better healthcare responsibility. Keeping the objective of spreading awareness of CPR in mind and instilling the responsibility and skill to save someone in need, the sākār youth, representing Sākār Foundation were actively seeking ways to reach out to even the lower socio-economic strata. This was made possible through the expertise and assistance of Nyadoi Eunice, a government-employed civil nurse. Eunice has been in close connection with the students and staff at Portland School, Uganda. With a collective effort, Sakar Foundation has been able to bring a wave of healthcare competence to young minds of different layers of society.

Music is an emotional path that has shown many benefits in one’s overall development.

A school when focusing on the overall development of a child inculcates other ways of extra-curricular streams like art, music or drama. Schools in Portland live with this vision through their Music and Entertainment Club. To add further vibrance to their attempt, the sākār youth, the brains behind the Sākār Foundation, have donated Brass band sets to the schools of Portland, Uganda. An additional monetary assistance was also provided to help schools deliver the best to the students, the future change-makers of society.

Projector for Elementary School

Digitalisation has taken over the world. Most schools don’t just stick to textbooks and blackboard, but have moved to digital form of teaching.

To ensure the students of Katapady SVS School, Udupi, India also stay competent in this world of technology and digitalisation, Sakar Foundation has provided them with latest technology-based Projector facilities. The main hope and idea behind this is to give the students the wings to imagine and actualise their thoughts. The activities of conducting seminars, presentations and, visually backed learning sets the door open to avenues of holistic learning and development. This way of learning and teaching focuses primarily on cultivating on various soft skills.

Hearing aids for kids in India

Having hearing challenges herself, Keisha Pai at the age of 14, decided to help other kids with the same problem.

Another child-centered program aims at providing relief to children with difficulties in hearing. As rightly termed, disability makes one “gifted” and not “differently challenged”. Through this program, we shall let no hurdles come in the way of these kids whose eyes gleam with a sense of passion as they hear a sound note for the very first time with these aids.

Shelter, a necessity of every human is, unfortunately, deprived too many. The organization is doing it most by providing comfortable and well-structured accommodation solutions to the economically deprived sections in Uganda. This project works in close collaboration with Beatrice Acieng Nas, PCEF, to turn the blueprint of dreams into the reality of living in a home.

Volunteering does not necessarily happen through an organization but on an individual level when you help a fellow being in need. This was well exercised by imparting knowledge on a much-needed life-saving skill of administering a successful CPR.

Feeding children in slums

Slum children in India are deprived of basic meals. They are malnourished, sick, and victim of child abuse. Feeding at least one nutritious meal to these children on the street and slums enables them to get back to their proper childhood, education, and a better life. It gives them chance to dream again and have hope for the future.

Ambulance services in Mangalore, India

Sākār Foundation is helping communities at large with its ambulance service.

With the pandemic, there was not just COVID-19 in the picture, but the overall health and immune system of the world were affected. As the number of ambulances in hospitals assigned for COVID requirements increased, people faced chaos and scarcity in availing ambulance facilities for timely help and health assistance. Similar was the situation in Mangalore, a coastal city in Karnataka, India.  Sākār Foundation joined hands with Invenger, One Inc - a global leading technology and payments company with their functioning wing at Mangalore. Together, they made an impactful contribution to society and public health with the arrangement of Ambulance Services, which aided the lives of several people in and around Mangalore in getting timely and quality health care. These ambulances were also well-equipped with medical facilities like oxygen tanks, support systems, and trained staff. This initiative brought a wave of well-being and health in the region and has motivated me to serve and support the community without any charges.
